Kids Nonverbal Communication AAC Crewneck Sweatshirt – Autism Communication Board “I Communicate Differently” Point-to-Communicate Sweatshirt A027

$45.00

Communication doesn’t have to be spoken — and a child’s ability to express what they need shouldn’t depend on having words available in the moment.

This Kids Nonverbal Communication AAC Crewneck Sweatshirt transforms an everyday piece of clothing into a practical, wearable communication tool. Designed for nonverbal, minimally speaking, and differently communicating children, it gives the wearer a quick way to communicate common needs, responses, boundaries, and sensory concerns simply by pointing to the appropriate symbol on their sweatshirt.

The front reads “I COMMUNICATE DIFFERENTLY – I CAN POINT TO WHAT I NEED” above a colorful communication board featuring 16 frequently needed messages:

YES / NO / I DON’T KNOW / HELP
STOP / DON’T TOUCH / SPACE / A BREAK
WATER / FOOD / BATHROOM / LEAVE
TOO LOUD / TOO BRIGHT / OVERLOADED / I’M HURT
A Communication Board They Can Wear

This isn't simply an AAC-inspired graphic added to a sweatshirt. The design was created specifically around how the child wearing it would actually use it.

When a child looks down at the communication board on their chest, they see it from the opposite direction of someone standing in front of them. Because of that, portions of the symbols and wording are intentionally oriented from the wearer’s perspective, helping the child locate and point to the appropriate choice more naturally.

So if parts of the communication board appear upside down when viewed straight-on, that is intentional and an important part of the functional design.

The result is a communication aid that's already with them. There’s no separate communication card to remember, book to find, or device that has to be immediately accessible before they can express an urgent need.

For More Than Just Basic Wants

The board includes essentials like WATER, FOOD, BATHROOM, YES, and NO, but it was intentionally designed to address situations where communication can become even more important.

A child can point to DON’T TOUCH or SPACE to communicate a personal boundary. TOO LOUD, TOO BRIGHT, and OVERLOADED can help identify sensory distress. A BREAK and LEAVE give them a way to communicate that they need to step away from a situation, while HELP and I’M HURT provide important options when something is wrong.

This can make the sweatshirt especially useful during school, recess, field trips, appointments, travel, community outings, crowded events, amusement parks, family activities, or unfamiliar and highly stimulating environments.

And because it's a sweatshirt, the communication board can remain available during cooler weather when a T-shirt might otherwise be covered by another layer.
