Kids Nonverbal Communication AAC T-Shirt – “I Communicate Differently” Wearable Autism Communication Board Shirt A033
Every child deserves a way to communicate what they need — whether they use spoken words or not.
This Kids Nonverbal Communication AAC T-Shirt was designed to turn something a child already wears into a practical, always-available communication tool. Created for nonverbal, minimally speaking, AAC-using, and differently communicating children, the shirt allows the wearer to communicate common needs, responses, boundaries, and sensory concerns simply by pointing to the appropriate symbol on their shirt.
The front reads “I COMMUNICATE DIFFERENTLY – I CAN POINT TO WHAT I NEED” above a colorful communication board featuring 16 quick-access messages:
YES • NO • I DON’T KNOW • HELP • STOP • DON’T TOUCH • SPACE • A BREAK • WATER • FOOD • BATHROOM • LEAVE • TOO LOUD • TOO BRIGHT • OVERLOADED • I’M HURT
Designed to Be Used — Not Just Worn
This isn't simply an AAC-inspired graphic placed on a kids' T-shirt. The communication board was intentionally designed around how a child would actually use it while wearing it.
The child can look down, find the symbol that represents what they need, and point directly to it.
Because the wearer sees the board from the opposite direction of someone standing in front of them, portions of the words and symbols are intentionally oriented from the child's perspective. This helps make the board easier for the person wearing it to recognize and use.
So if some elements appear upside down when you're looking at the shirt straight-on, that's intentional — not a printing mistake.
Communication Goes Beyond Food & Water
The board includes common physical needs like WATER, FOOD, and BATHROOM, but we wanted this design to provide ways to communicate much more.
YES, NO, and I DON'T KNOW give a child simple ways to respond to questions.
DON'T TOUCH and SPACE allow them to communicate personal boundaries.
TOO LOUD, TOO BRIGHT, and OVERLOADED can help a child express sensory distress before or during an overwhelming situation.
A BREAK and LEAVE provide ways to communicate that they need to step away.
And importantly, HELP and I'M HURT give the child direct ways to indicate when something is wrong.
That can make this shirt especially useful during school, recess, field trips, appointments, therapy, travel, playground visits, community outings, crowded events, amusement parks, family activities, or unfamiliar and highly stimulating environments.
An Additional Communication Option That's Already There
AAC devices, communication books, cards, and other communication systems can be incredibly important. This shirt isn't intended to replace a child's existing AAC system or preferred method of communication.
Instead, it's designed to provide one more option.
If another communication tool isn't immediately accessible — or a child simply needs to communicate something quickly — the board is already right there on the clothing they're wearing.
